What we do

The Company of The Sable Hammer is a chivalric fighting company whose members aspire to the ideals of knighthood in martial prowess, virtue, and presentation. The company aims to present 14th and 15th century chivalric soldiers as accurately as possible.

We pursue this goal through the research and practice of armored combat, jousting, and costuming.

It is a banner for like-minded people to gather under and pursue high-level medieval reenactment. Together we attend and host medieval events across the country.

The Sable Hammer was founded by Raven Eastwood, Gage Mullis, and Collin Wolf in 2025.

Pursuits

Harnischfechten

Harnischfechten is the knightly art of battle in full armor. In the days of chivalry, warriors met in the lists and on the field with sword, axe, and dagger, seeking the gaps in their opponent's harness to decide honor with skill and strength. Today, this tradition lives on as fighters don the harness once more, testing themselves in the same martial ways as their forebears.

Jousting

Jousting combines historical pageantry with high-impact equestrian competition. Featuring armored knights on horseback riding at high speeds with wooden lances to score points to strike their opponent.

Historical Integrity

Historical Integrity comes into play when we showcase our kit. We spend countless hours researching through manuscripts, paintings, and surviving texts in order to compile information about the kit we pursue - not just in wearing armor, but also in different ventures such as cooking, embroidery, leather working and more!
